The Greatest Question Ever Asked is “What must I do to be saved?” Most of us don’t use those exact words, but the concerns felt by a jailer in ancient Pilippi when he first asked this question nearly 2,000 years ago {Acs 16:25-30}, are the same concerns we feel today. Where can I find the help I need? Is there any relif from my sense of failure, guilt and shame? Is there love, acceptance, and forgiveness for someone like me? Can I get myself together? In shortbe saved. The Simplest Answer Ever Given Is “Everone who calls upon the name of the Lord will be saved” {Rom. 10:13}.These eleven words ecplain ow anyone can find the help he or she needs, experience relif from the sense of failure, guilt and shame, get themselves together, that is, find love, acceptance, and forgiveness. In short be saved! Now- - “Everone” Means You! This verse says if you will call on the name of the Lord you will be saved. But - - What dose it mean “to call on the name of the Lord”? When you call on anyone for something you always do three things. First You realize a need. You don’t buy new clothing everyday do you? You don’t go to the doctor everyday do you? Decisions of this nature are based on a sense of need. Likewise you won’t call on the name of the Lord unless you have a spiritual nrrd. That is, along with everyone else who has ever lived, you, too, have sinned and need a Savior {Rom. 3:23} You realize that, don’t you? You realize that, don’t you? Ou realize you have sinned against God, others and yourself. Therefore you have taken the first step: You have realized a need. Second when you call on anyone for anything you recognize the ability of the one you call on supply your need. When you need new clothing you don’t go to a bakery, do you? When you need medical aid, you don’t go to a gas station. There are special places to go to have special needs satisfied. When you need a Savior, where do you go? To Jesus. “Everyone who calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” Other verses affirm this fact {Jn. 1:12; Jn. 3:16; Jn. 3:36]. What is a Savior? Someone who does for you what you cannot do for yourself. If we were in a boating accident, I was injured and you pulled me to safety, you would have done for me what I could not do myself. Swim! In that situation, you would be my Savior. What did Jesus do to qualify as your Savior? He died for you {Rom. 5-8}. Do you believe Jesus could be your Savior if you asked Him to? Then you have taken the second step. Thirdwhen you call on anyone for anything you act. Suppose you need a doctor and there is one nearby who can help you. He is anxious to supply the medical care you need. His whole life has been directed to that purpose. But, before his ability to help becomes effective for you, something must happen. You must ask him to be your doctor. The same is true when accepting Jesus as your Savior. You realize your need. You recognize the ability of Jesus to satisfy your need, and He is anxious to do so. “I am come to give you life and to that more abundantly,” He said {Jn. 10:10}. But before his ability to help became effective for you, something must happen: You must ask Him to be your Savio. Have you ever done that? Would you like to do it now? Realizing your need of a Savior {step one}; and recognizing the ability of Jesus to satisfy that need {step two}: would you like to take step three and ask Him to be your personal Savior? Then Pray this simple Prayer: Dear God, I realize I have sinned. I Believe Jesus can save me. I now ask Him to be my Savior. Help me to do what Jesus would do, so I can lead others to Jesus, too. Amen. Let’s Review the Simplest Answer Ever Given to the Greatest Question Ever Asked “Everyone {that means you} who calls upon the Lord {that is, realize your need, believe Jesus can satisfy your need, and ask Him to} will be Saved.” You did that didn’t you? And you meant it! Therefore you can know you’re saved because God said so! {Rom. 10:13} The Bible is God’s Word isn’t it? Would God Lie? No. He means exactly what He said, doesn’t He? God said if you would call on His name, you would be Saved. God said it. You did it. That settles it! This does not mean you will not sin again. You live in a world where evil is real. Accepting Jesus does not make you immune to evil. Temptation will come {1 Cor. 10:13}.On occasion, you will stumble. But, you need not be permanently disabled. Forgiveness is possible even in the case of recurring sin. How? Through steady use of the believer’s “bar of soap” which is 1 Jn. 1:9“If we confess our sins, God is faithful and just to forgive us of our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” When you soil your hands you wash them. You do not expect them stay clean. The cleansing, through effective, is not permanent. Should you soil your hands again, rewashing makes them clean again. The same principle applies when you sin. Forgiveness, while effective, is an ongoing process. Should you soil you soul through “new” or recurring sin, confess it instantly, accept the cleansing God offers, and get on with the business of abundant living. Do so as often as needed. In time, the joy of being clean clear through will help you forify yourself against the lure of temptation. United Christians together http://wwjd.cabanova.com rsjmack@yahoo.com
